I would rather be a glass half full person rather than be a pessimistic, digital warmongering, glass half empty sort of person. The whole balance of the world in fact resides with the magic that is of opposite energies, but time and again there has been promise of a utopia and closely followed cynicism of a muddled dystopia. Even more profound is the promise of technology being the new savior to help us from this dystopia and help us get to the point of the promised digital utopia. Utopia or not, I am a firm believer of the power of technology, more so in the power of Internet of Things which is the new face of the tech front. Granted it wouldn’t be the Promised Land but then it can make the world a better place than how we know it now, technology right now is rather incomplete, it is still an imperfect creation of humankind which is evolving to be a better companion to mankind.
Internet of things, the new paradigm, is all set to take us closer by leaps and bounds to be the right fit medium of technology. It can help us in ways that would possibly be limited by the imagination of humankind, the transformation of daily life in the way we work, travel, communicate, exercise and shop would be nothing like what we have experienced.
The IoT Promise
Let’s start with the environment, especially with a lot of attention on building sustainable models it would only make sense for a new tech paradigm to take the lead and protect the environment we live in. With IoT it is now possible to bring an end to all the anxiety surrounding Al Gore and his predictions of world doom through a flood. The sensors and its communication with other devices would inform us of the conditions about the environment in real time. This could help us be informed about soil moisture, pollution levels and soil conditions to help proactively combat climate issues.
Our bodies would help keep a check on the vitals and alert doctors of possible ailments and health conditions that need to be checked. This can help to reduce instants of cardiac arrests and check whether if the cardiac arrhythmias are in safe range.
Higher energy consumption at home can be checked with smart meters, alerting you to check the use of high power consuming items during peak load. It can help you in regulating the temperature of your thermostat and switch off those power appliances when not in use. Homes can also be embedded with state of the art security that can help you sleep better knowing your home is being protected with direct transmission to your local police station about any unusual activities.
Be it at your home or the way you commute, Internet of Things would definitely be an aide in the years to come. It can touch your lives in more ways than one leaving an indelible mark on the lives on which it has touched. I mean seriously, could you even fathom a future with no upgrades of the current tech be it twitter, Facebook or YouTube, forget that could you even imagine being transported to an era of Web 1.0 of read only web! I sure can’t! Let’s see the change, let the old tech be replaced by a newer, more perfect tech creation, one that can lay aside all the digital warmongering and help us build a better world through technology.
